About Ron
I was born October 23 1955 at West Point, New York where my father (Joseph Tilton) was stationed in the Air Force at (Stewart Air Force Base). The Base didn't have a hospital at the time and used the West Point Academy Hospital.
We lived there for two years and then we where re-stationed to (Dow Air Force Base) In Bangor, Maine. As a boy growing up in the north, all I can remember where the winters and I can't remember ever being cold. Between Ice Skating, Sledding, Tobogganing and building snowmen and snow forts it just seem to all be fun times. There where a few winters where the snow drifts would be so bad that you could jump out of the second story window into the snow like you where diving off of a diving board into a pool. Another thing that I remember was that there was a river that either ran through the base or right outside it and there was a creek that ran down this hill into the river. During the winter the creek and river would freeze over. You could get to the top of the hill and walk out onto the creek. Under the Ice the creek was still running and you could hear it. You could then sit down and slide all the way down this creek right out onto the river. Teenagers would have Voltzwagon beetles on the ice driving around pulling kids on inter tubes just like a boat does. It was something else.
After two tours, (Eight Years at Dow , my father receive orders to (Yokota Air Force Base) Japan. It was quite an adventure going to Japan and coming back. Our trip started with a visit to my sister JoAnn in Ohio. I don't remember how long we stayed. From there we flew by plane the (Lockheed Constellation) all the way to Japan. I don't remember where we started from, or how many places we stopped. I just remember it seem like it took foreverbut was really like 15 hours or something like that. The first part of the tour was at Yokota, We lived on base for a few months then my dad got a house off base in a little town called Fusa.
